To-Day's Polling. THE- £6000 LOAN.

While we are going to press the voting for the above loan is proceeding with considerable, briskness, aud. for once in the history of Feilding, the ratepayers are displaying a decided interest in their own affairs. At this, the eleventh hour, there may be one or.two"hard cases" who are 'holding out to make a display of . shoddy independance in attempting by giving a bad .example and worse advice, .-'fel^bias and. lead astray burgesses who -Tejwould otherwise vote in favor of the loan. . iWe give a friendly word of caution to those-who are so liable to be so influenced, they may be sure the opponents of the loan are not actuated by any desire to benefit the Borough. On the contrary, they are guided Only by motives of personal animosity against those who desire the welfare of the Borough and its inhabitants. Anything that will do harm to the Borough generally must injure those individuals who have offended the " small minds of a weak kneed few," and to gratify a petty feeling they are willing to injure themselves by retarding the progress of the Borough. It must not be forgotten that the whole of the councillors, and all men of any respectability or standing in the Borough are in favor or the loan. They having a large stake in the place, are more alive to the necessity for public works, and having the township prepared for the reception of new settlers. There ' may be one or two exceptions where opponents are influenced by honest conviction. We hope so, for the honour of human nature. But we have not heard any expressions on the public platform to give us that opinion. To those who have not voted we urge upon them to vote honestly for the "Loan and Industry," uninfluenced by mere idle men who dislike work themselves and hate to see others earning honest wages.
