The Loan.
TO THB BDITOB OT THB STAB. Sib,— As yonr journal will be publish* ed some two or three hours before the closing of the poll, I thought it might not be amiss to ask your aid~m urging to the utmost every individual ratepayer who is really anxious for the prosperity of the place, to make up his mind to assist the only avadable means of securing that prosperity, viz., the pawingof the loan. There are; I knowj jastHfr'' handful of strong opponents to the mea* sure, but as it is already well-koowa what are their " reasons" for such opposition, I woold ask each one to use his own judgment and not allow himself to be biassed by any party or personal prejudice which these would-be hinderersto progress may bring to bear upon him. I have quoted the word reasons, for as yoa justly observe in your Thursday's feader, "no opponent to the measure haa yet advanced a single reason for opposing the loan, and personal motives alone actuate such opponents." I say again to one and all, roll up, roll up, and mind and erase the right line, leaving untouched the words " I vote for the above proposals." — I am, &c, ' -' ''- BUBQESB. r
