The Great Northern Railway.

TO THB EDITOR OF THB STAR. Sib,— What is our sleepy Borough Council about P Parliament meets on the 14th June, and no attempt has yet been made by our supposed leaders to press the numerous wants of this town . and district upon our member. Palmerston hns a public meeting on Friday night to urge its wants, and depend upon it if our city fathers don't wake up, that energetic township will again put us to the blush for our apathy. Marton, Wanganui, Taranaki are all eagerly agitating for the point of junction of the! New Zealand Great Northern, while from Feilding, which bas, I believe, the best, and certainly the shortest, line between Wellington and Auckland, no voice is heard, and our route is left to be advocated by the willing but feeble efforts of isolated individuals. I have waited patiently to see if our Council would move in the matter but in vain, despite article after article written by you, sir. on the subject. Is it possible to stir our local body from its somnolency by sng*.: gesting that the Mayor should at once call a public meeting, when resolutions could be passed and afterwards forwarded to Mr Walter Johnston, setting forth our claim to the central route, and.a.ski»g that it should be at least examined aud reported ou by a competent engineer P At the same time, other minor wants, such as the bridge across the Oroua at Bull's mill, the gazetting as a main road the road along the railway line from Bunnythorpe to Oroua. &c , &c . &c, could be brought forward. — I sm,lc, ' D. H. Macarthur.
