♦ An amusing incident occurred in connection with the Massey tral which is just concluded. Massey travelled by train iv custody of a detective, but he was allowed to take his seat in a smoking carriage with other passengers. The railway guard wbo passed through to collect tickets did not know the detective, who, of course, is entitled to travel free, and asked him for his ticket. Ihe detective, gave lim a significent nod and said thut it whs ail right, but the guard did not seem satisfied. Mr Massey, who was sitting alongside, here interposed : " Oh, I will pay i for him ; he is a friend of mine." The I joke, as may be imainned, was much enjoyed by the occupants ot the parriage.
