The Foresters' Ball.
. O The ball held last night in the Town Hall by the Foresters, was a most enjoyable one, and the only drawback was the somewhat scant attendance, owing to the threatening aspect of the weather, only about a hundred ladies and gentlemen being present. The hall was beautifully decorated with flags and evergreens, while the drop curtain of the stage was emblazoned with tho arms and quartcrings of the order, surmounted with the motto—" Unitas Benevolentia ct Concordia" — above which was a stag's head and antlers. Mr King's band, from Wanganui, was in attendance, and the music was everything that could be desired. Mr Pollock, assisted by Mrs Pollock, attended to the catering department, and they deserve great credit for the satisfactory manner in which they had prepared the viands, and dispensed them to the guests during the intervals between the dances. The floor was in magnificent order, and the hall was better lighted than we hare seen it on any previous similar occasion. Nothing was wanting to make the affair a complete success. Whist parties were made up of the non-dancers, and draft boards were also provided. The ball committee deserve every praise for the care and forethought they had exercised, not the smallest detail appeared to have been forgotten. We noticed several visitors from Marton, Bulls, and Palmerston, and the kindred societies, viz., the Oddfellows and Good Templars were fairly represented. The dancing began about 10 o'clock, and was continued with unabated vigor until about 5 o'clock this morning, when the company separated for their respective homes, for which they departed well pleased with the pleasant evening they had passed.
