Auckland Supreme Court.
[pee united press association.! Auckland. This Day. The Supreme Court was opened to-day by his Honor Mr Justice Gillies. In his charge to the Grand Jury his Honor said the cases were somewhat numerous, but not more than was to be expected in a growing population. Most of the cases came from the outlying districts, on the outposts of civilization, where wild and lawless characters congregated. Atthe same time the cases were not of a henious character, none of the high class being in the calendar. There are 10 charges against eight prisoners — three of whom are Maoris. The most serious charge is one of arson. There was a prisoner out on baii committed on a charge of forgery. The judge ordered him to be called before a bill was sent to the Grand Jury, so that it might not be necessary to deal with the case.
