Manchester Highway Board.
» ■ A special meeting was held at the board's office yesterday. Present — Wardens Macarthur, (in the chair), Bailey, Linton and Bartholomew. The meeting was called to consider a letter received from the E. & C. AidCorporation, to the following effect :- - "That the Board ask the County Council to apply to the Government for a grant under the Koads and Bridges Act for the .completion of the main road from Bunnythorpe station to the- northern boundary of the Manchester Block, through Ashurst; the Board to supply the estimate, plans and specifications already prepared ; also, that the Board - agree to pay one fourth of one quarter- of the grant that has tb be provided locally and ask the'Oounty Council to pay a similar sum, that the Board have the supervision and control of the work. These conditions being agreed to, the Corporation will pay pro rata on the expenditure by the Government and local -bodies a sum not exceeding. £570." .. The letter pointed out the importance of this offer of the Corporation beiog accepted at once, as should any delay ariso and the land be; sold in the interim, the Corporation would not have the same interest in repeating the ofEer. It was resolved, on the motion of Warden Bailey, That the proposal, as received from the Corporation! be agreed to. ...,. ,- ..,.;. ■•! Resolved, That the ratepayers re the separation .of the northern ridings. from the County be advertised once a week for four consecutive weeks. This closed the business of the meeting.
