Proposed Dairy Factory at Wanganui.

On Thursday there was a good attend* ance afc a public meeting held in Mr F. R. Jackson's rooms, to promote the formation 1 of a cheese and butter factory company, afc Wanganui. Documents were read giving particulars of the working of several such factories' in the colony, and valuable information as tb their prospects. The chairman said that 4d per.gallon, could be paid for the milk, and that this would be a penny per gallon more than the settlers now got for it on the average. He mentioned that at Awamutu 3£d was paid, 'and' the cheese fetched 7d per lb in Auckland. He also mentioned incidentally that it nas proposed to keep a number of pigs, which in other factories paid the cost of management. One gentleman ; suggested that s co-operative store be started inconnection with the factory,- but 'another gentleman doubted if any co-operative store could compete with the low prices now ruling in retail establishments. Ultimately it was uhanimously 'resolved, That it fs desirable, that ; a dairy, factory be inaugurated in the Wanganui district. A conk mittee was appointed to collect the necessary data, and to report the same at another .public; meeting at the end of a fortnight. ; ■ . .
