The Massey Case.
■■ ♦ SENTENCE OF THREE YEARS.
(PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Invercargili, This Day. The jury in the Massey case last night fouud J. M. Massey guilty, and his wife not guilty. On resuming to-day the Judge proceeded to pass sentence. Mr Fitchett submitted, in mitigation of the sentence, that he had been twenty years in the service of the Corporation, during which time about two millions of money had passed through his hands. The Judge sail! he did not concur with what had been advanced by Counsel. The case was a very' bad one. He had used his wife as an instrnment of his crime, and endeavored to degrade her to the same moral level as himself. The maximum penalty was three years' penal servitude, and that Was the sentence he would impose on Massey.. Mrs Massey* who refused to leave the dock while her husband Was being sentenced, was then discharged.
