SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT KIWITEA.
A young man named George Cattley, who is employed bush falling at Kimtea, mot with an accident -yesterday, which. although at first sight appeared trivial, was very nearly attended with fatal consequences. From what we can learn it appears that in avoiding a tree that was falling towards him, Cattley tripped, and fell on the blade of his axe, which cut deeply into the arm. At. first, it was thought the wound was not of any great consequence, but the continued gush of blood soon created a feeling of consider- | able alarm. Dr Johnston was sent for, and was on the spot with all possible despatch. On examination he found that a large artery had been cut. After some slight difficulty from the peculiar formation of the wound, the doctor was ablo to take up the artery and stop the flow of blood, which had by that time continued for upwards of six hours. Cattley was almost prostrated from weakuess caused by the frightful loss of blood. He is now doing as well as can be expected, although still very weak.
