THE HALCOMBE SCHOOL.

10 THE OT TIIE TEILDINO "STAB. :Srß,— l believe that your readers will rail agree -with me that Mr Harris, the :schoolmaster, did not -secure fair play at ?the special meetiag of thc school comunitlee held some days ago. I don't see ihow be could considering that the Chairman, Mr Lash, and a member of the •committee, Mr Purkiss, had to sit in : judgment upon "him. Both Lash and .Purkiss have appeared m the R. M . \ Court in -ases where Mr Harris was tire •defendant, with L_rsh for properly punishing his boy, and Purkiss was the defendant for striking Harris in the face when •on the railway platform. How then •could Harris get fair play when, out of Sfive members present, there were two ;againsthiro, and one with a casting vote as 'Chairman? If Messrs Lash and Purkiss lad any ideas of fair play they wo aid i not have acted as they did, by sitting o a 4he -committee both as judges and prosecutors at the same time. A certain •clique, for purposes of their own, have ■wanted Mr Harris removed, and they (have worked him out of his billet at last, on order to make room for _ friend tsf one •of the committee. I hope you will see .your way to publish this. — I am, etc ., Fair Plat. \ XWe have made certain excisions froro ithis letter, especially that part referring -O a Government officer at Halcombe. It is a singular fact with correspondents ■who sign themselves "Fair Play," o<* by •other names of similar import, that they «re generally those who attribute the basest motives to persons who happen to <disagree with them in public or private matters.— Ed.
