FATAL ACCIDENT.

[PEB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, This Day. A fatal accident occuned on Tuesday afternoon, at the Deep Stream section of the Otago Central Radway. A man was at work removing a large mass of recks projecting over the riven A blast had been fired, when the rock suddenly gave way and Edward Joyce fell over 100 feet down into the river and was drowned, whilst WiUiam Williams was found lying on the bank, close to the water. His right arm was broken, and his collarbone dislocated. A third man named Wright, managed to hang on to the rocks, 150 feet above water, until a rope was thrown to him and he was rescued. At an inquest yesterday on the body of Joyce, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Deceased leaves a very large familyFifty representatives and members of the various Friendly Societies met the Colonial Treasurer last night, and discussed with him his National Insurance scheme. It was resolved— "Without professing to commit the several societies to which those present respectively belong, this meeting expresses its general approval of the scheme of National Insurance as proposed by Major Atkinson."
