A VOICE FROM TAONUI.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PEILDING STAB* Sib, — A 8 it is well-known that it has been by the persistent efforts of your journal that Government authorities hare from time to time been induced to make concessions in the way of providing postal, judicial, and other accommodation for the convenience of the settlers on the Manchester Block, and the district generally, I venture to lay before you a great inconvenience felt by the numerous residents about Taonui, including, as I need not tell you, a good number of your subscribers, viz., the want of postal accommodation. As it is we have to go all the way to i.''eilding for the despatch and delivery of our correspondence, and in doing this, when we get to the only possible means of crossing on foot the Croua Hiver, we are encountered with a notice board to the effect that if we use this bridge we shall be prosecuted. In other words, one department of the Government says " you must walk to Feilding for your letters," and another says "if you do we'll punish you." The said prohibition being disobeyed, and not enforced is very little to the point, and does not alter the fact of the inconvenience of not having our letters delivered at Taonui itself, where, as we have a railway station, the expense would be very trifling compared with the great advantage it would give to all concerned. The schoolmaster would, no doubt, be able to undertake and fulfil the duties without inconvenience to himself and with satisfaction to the public. As I want to agitate this matter till we get the accommodation I reter to, I beg your able assistance in so doing. — I am, &0., A Subscribes. [We will follow up this subject next issue.— Ed. F.S.]
