WRECK OF A VESSEL AT WELLINGTON.
«. (peb united pbbss association.) Wellington, This Day. Tbe ketch Emerald, Captain Backstrom, went ashore at Palliser Bay on Monday evening. She is likely to become a total wreck. She left Oamaru on Friday and was off Cape Campbell at 11 p.m. on Sunday. It came up very thick and blew bard at 2 a.m. They found themselves in Palliser Bay. Tried all day to beat out, but could not owing to the heavy sea. At about 6 in the evening the vessel went ashore The crew experienced great difficulty in getting ashore. They drifted a large log ashore with a rope attached, which was made fast by the settlers on the heaeh. The boat was then pulled ashore by means of it. The cargo consisted of colonial produce consigned to Hassell. The vessel is insured in New Zealand for £550. mmmmmmmmmwmmmmwa
