FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in the new Council Chamber, Manchester street, on Thursday evening. Present — His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Crs Goodbehere, Sherwill, Fowles, Worsfold, Rutherford, Lewers, and Thompson. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting, and of the special meeting, on the loan matter, held on the Ist March, were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read : — From Mr Svendsen, calling attention to a stump on the footpath in Manchester street, asking the Council to remove the same. From Mr Gordon, asking permission to use shingles on his intended new blacksmith's shop in Kimbolton road. From Mr Macarthur, suggesting certain improvements in Manchester square. From Mr Hastie, calling attention to the danger existing from the dilapidated state of the bridge in front of his Hotel. BEPOBT OF FINANCE COMMITTEE. Your committee beg to submit the following accounts to the Council, and recommend that the same be passed for payment as soon as funds are available: —For January— Town Clerk, £9 3s 8d ; C. Green, £9 9s ; J. Bishop, £1 9s 6d ; E. D. Beaufort, £2 4s 4d ; C. Hodges, £2 2d ; W. Carthew, £2 4s 3d; J. Morris, 17s 6d ; T. Smith, 18s ; P. and J. Hodges, £1 10s 4d ; Kirtonand Curtis, £6 12s sd; Public Hall Company, £3 4s ; Wanganui Hospital, £12 10s ; Total, £45 Is 7d. H. L. Shbbwiix, Chairman. engineeb's rbpobt. In compliance with instructions I have the honor to report on the encroachment of the Kiwitea stream near its crossing with the Kimbolton road. After having inspected the stream when low and during flood, I am of opinion that the most effective plan for averting any further damage would be to run out a dam from a point a little above the encroachment, such dam to be of sheet piling, and to run obliquely to the current of the stream, a narrow channel to be excavated through the shingle spit, and the material deposited behind the timber work, as shown on accompanying sketch. Should this suggestion be carried out it would also be advisable after that is done to repair to some extent the damage already sustained by the road. This could be done at a small cost by wheeling in the necessary earth-work, the material for which is close at hand. The total cost I estimate at £35, including repairs to road. — I am, &c, Geo. C. Him., C.E. Resolved, on the motion of Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Fowles, That the, Council accede to Mr Svendsen's request re removal of stump opposite his new shop.
