The idea has been mooted by one Councillor to purchase the present gasworks. Dukedix, This Day. The Governor received a deputation of Chinese residents this morning, who presented an address of Loyalty. In reply the Governor said he felt sure colonists were able to rely on the peacefulness and law abiding feelings of the Chinese residents of the colony. His Excellency said his tour throughout the island had been one of uninterrupted pleasure and satisfaction. Timabu, This Day. An elderly man named James Watson fell down dead in a lodginghouse today. A man named G. < oilier, one of Murray's survey party on the Upper Koka* tahi, was drowned yesterday through the upsetting of a boat. There were four men in the boat. Three were found standing on a rock in the centre of the Kokatahi River, with the water boiling around them. They vrere rescued. Collier's body is not yet found.
