THE BOROUGH LOAN.
» TO THE EDITOB OF THE FEILWNG BTAB. Sir, — In your issue of the 6th I noticed a whining outburst from a correspondent, who, with the ostensible object of benefit-; ting his fellow-citizens, gratuitously gives them the advantage of his disinterested (?) advice, under the norn de plume of " Pro bono Publico." The whole tenor of his letter belies the signature, causing the cloven-hoof to obtrude itself. He makes an unwarrantable attack on the Council for not providing him with sewerage accommodation, apparently oblivious of the fact that the proposed loan is not for sewerage purposes, but for the construction of roads, arid that in a young town like this a sewerage scheme is out of the question — being an unnecessary and expensive luxury, the adoption of which may with advantage be postponed for the next twenty years. If your correspondent is still in a delirium as to the disposal of his "refuse," my advice to him is, that instead of running it into the Makino, and polluting the stream, he would find it more profitable to utilize it in " running" a cabbage -garden, an occupation I should imagine him (to judge by his letter) eminently adapted for. — I am, &c, ■ ■ . Battie-Axb.
