FATAL ACCIDENT. LONGHURST'S RELEASE. Wellington, This Day. A man named Robert Reeve, a driver of a timber waggon was killed instantaneously yesterday while proceeding alono; the Porirua Road. The dray capsized and fell on him, breaking his chest. A meeting of Longhurst's friends was held last night, to petition the Governor for a release of the prisoner. A committee was appointed to further the object of the meeting, and draw up petition. The Government have decided that in a case where the whole of the members of the licensing committees have not been elrcted, the election is void, and it rests with the Governor to nominate a whole committee. DtrNEDix, This Day. The weather is delightful and 2000 persons are on the course. Hurdles, Milo, 1; Canard, 2. Canard was hot favorite at 2to 1. Time, 4min 3secs. The purchase of Sir Mo<ired is denied. The Envy filly is scratched for the Cup, and Somnus for all engagements.
