EVIDENCES OF DECAY.
♦— ! The following telegram, addressed to the Chairman, was read at the County Council meeting yesterday, and was received with shouts of contemptuous laughter by the members : — " Can we insert. Kiwitea and Manchester licensing ad vertisements? No other paper has any circulation in these districts but tbe Advocate. Please enquire for yourself. J. L. Kirkbbid-5." When a newspaper proprietor descends so low ns to tell deliberate falsehoods to obtain outside advertisements, the end cannot be far off. We are sorry, indeed, for the Advocate, and pity the weak mindedness that is displayed by the proprietor when he has the presumption to ask tbe County Chairman to "enquire for himself" as to the circulation of his journal. The County Chairman, Dr Rocksteow. is not likely to so far forget the dignity of his position.
