A NARROW ESCAPE.
♦■ When the train for Foxton had lefc the ! platform of the railway station, at Feilding, last evening, the stationmaster discovered a passenger hanging on between a carraige and the guard's van, his feet resting on the couplings. Meanwhile, a person who had missed his passage rushed after the train and scrambled into a carriage. As the stationmaster had signalled the driver to stop, the train was brought to a stand-still, and the names of the parties taken by Constable Price who was a spectator of the occurrence. Onel of the delinquents threatened to "report the stationmaster at Wellington." It will be a gross piece of neglect on the part of the railway authorities if these persons are not proscecuted with the utmost rigor of tbe law. Several of the lady passengers were somewhat alarmed at the sudden stoppage -of the train- <One thing to be said in excuse is that 1 -he-platform of the carriage was, as usual, crowded to such an extent that; passengers could with difficulty get -on the carriage at all, and until passengers •are- compelled to take their seats before the train starts, such occurrences are' likely to be frequent.
