AWAHURI SCHOOL COMMIT FEE
A meeting of the householders was held at Awahuri, ou Monday evening last which was well attended, and great interest was manifested in the elections. Ml Weightman was elected as chairman The following gontleiru-n were proposed as a committee for the ensuing year, and the following was theresultof the voting' A. McDonald 9, A. Campbell, 9, H Bennett 9, J. Weiglitman 12, K. Gascoigne 10, A. Fraser 9, James IN T airr 8. lionry Stewart 8. As there was a tie between the two last named, the Chairman gave his casting vote in favoi of Mi-rsairn. H. Wrigloy, 6: Pelei Stewart, 6; G. Philips, 1; M. K. Samuels, 7; C. Gascoigne. 0; T. Lraser. 3 • G. K. Luoas, 0 ; S. Knight, 7 ; J Miller, 0; J. Whittle, 0; G. Worsfold. 7; IT. Mends, 1. Tliese elections show the absurdity of the system of cumulative voting. Henry Stewart received the 70tes of eight householders, and James aim the votes of only two, and yet by the castii g vote of the Chairnrin the 1 liter is elected. The thng is not only absurd, but could easily be made a meaus of keeping out good men.
