AN ODDFELLOWS' LODGE.

« A public meeting was held at Ivoe's jDenbigh Hotel, on Monday evening last, -with a. view. to the formation of an Oddfellows' Lodge, in Feilding. There was a very good attendance, 20 and 30 gentlemen being ; present. Mr T- W. K. Forster was voted to the - chair. Mr H. Christensen, as the convener •of the meeting, explained at some length ji'ie objects and benefits derivable from - Oddfellowship. He had been an Oddfellow for over 21 years, and was anxious tto see a. lodge established in Feilding. He had convened the present meeting at •ethe request of several gentlemen who :-desired to become members. Mr J. Smith and others also supported ;the movement. MrW. Nicholas, as an Oddfellow of . some .20 years' standing, endorsed the ; remarks of the previous speakers, and . concluded by expressing his willingness to become an honorary member. Mr W. Carthew, in a lengthy speed., -supported the proposal to establish a -Lodge in Feilding. He further stated that he had been an Oddfellow for a i number of years, and would gladly be- -. come an honorary member of the new Lodge. Mr Carthew concluded his intteresting remarks by explaining the posi>tions of honorary and financial members, and stated as his .firm belief that the ■ Ord>-r of Oddfellowship was superior to .-all other benefit societies. After some further discussion it*was i resolved, on the motion of Mr H. Christ.ensen, seconded by Mr J. Smith, That an ' Oddfellow's Lodge be formed in Feilding. Mr J- Smith suggested that the weekly « contribution of the Lodge be Is. The Chairman and Mr Carthew held .that the -amount named would prove in- . sufficient to cover the expenses of n new Lodge. The Chairman suggested tthat the matter should be dealt with by : a committee. At this stage of the preeedings several unembers of the Loyal Manawatu Lodge, (YPalmerston), arrived, and were cordially ■welcomed by the meeting, amongst them ;being-N.a, Bro R. Eelf ; V.G., Bro F T Cowper; P.G.S., Bros Scott and Gardner; and P.G.S., W. Hale, of the Antipodean Lodge, Wellington. V.G., Bro Cowper explained to the i meeting the working of the Pnlmerston Lodge, and expressed his willingness, on behalf of the Lodge, to lend every assist- ; ance in the formation of a Lodge in proposed by Mr J. Smith, seconded .by Mr J. H. Weatherley, That a committee, to consist of Messrs W. Foster, -*VW.D.< Nicholas, H. Wetherley, T. W. ' K. Poster, and the mover, be appointed to'tate the necessary steps f^r the establishment of An Oddfellows' Lodge in Feilding, and toreport that day month. — Carried. It was decided to advertise.'the dnte of . the next meeting in the Stae. Previous to the .meeting dispersing, .upwards of 20 names of gentlemen willing tojoin the new Lodge were received !br the Chairman. A cordial vote of thanks to the visiting members of the Palmerston Lodge, and 'another to the Chairman, terminated a vrery successful meeting.
