KIN TAWHIAO.
■© This chief arrived at Awahuri yesterday, and was received by the Manawatu Natives in the customary way. His party was met at the Awahuri bridge, and escorted into tire pa by a large number of men who testified to their welcome by continued volleys from firearms of every kind and description. During the day large numbers of the European settlers visited the pa to look xipon Tawhiao, and we have heard very few expressions of satisfaction with his appearance. The modesty of his earh, added to the air of languor which was very noticeable, detracted considerably from the effect. It is ranch, to be feared that the unlimited hospitality provided at Eakariki has had a depressing effect. Up to a late hour last evening Native dancing was indulged in, the lame house built for the King's reception being used for the purpose. To-day was to be devoted to receiving Native guests from the surrounding settlements, and large quantities of provisions, solid and liquid,, have been provided for their entertainment. A full report will appear in our next issue.
