THE FANCY FAIR.
4> On Saturday afternoon the special representation for children was attended by crowds of delighted youngsters. Tho may pole dance was twice repeated, and in the second performance the pleasure of many of the Uttle visitors was greatly heightened by their being permitted to join in the dance. We need scarcely say that Punch and Judy caused the numerous little faces to beam with inexpressible delight, while, to show the little folk the meaning of the stocks, one or two gentlemen allowed themselves to be "run in" ' by the Beadle, and it apparently gave much pleasure to the children to subscribe their coppers towards "bailing them out." We should mention thaiUhe band played at intervals, and by special desire of the manager "ye funnie clownes," Messrs Johnson and Lazell, went through some of their drolleries, tumbling, &c, adding much to the amusement of the little ones* In the evening there was the best house of the season, the hall being densely packed, and we may truthfully say that every place within at least 20 miles was represented, special trains running both ways as late as 12 o'clock to convey the visitors home. There were several changes in the programme, and "Ye Richardson Sbowe" was given four times, each with some new piece, and there was a bumper house on each occasion. The I night's entertainment concluded by a most ludicrous trick oa the part of the clowns, who, having seated four well-' known gentlemen in the middle of the hall, proceeded to "lather and shave" them amidst repeated roars of laughter from the audience. The Fair was continued on Monday and Tuesday nights, when there were some slight changes in the programme, and dancing was intro- M duced at the close of each night's enter- H tainmenfc. The attendances still showed no signs of falling ott, and the Richardson Show and other departments of the Fair continued to attract as much as ever Last evening was the closing night, and after the various other performances the ladies in costume, who had presided over " ye shoppes," Ac., tripped merrily round "ye mate pole" in first-rate style, and were loudly applauded. Afterwards dancing, accompanied by Mr Ring's band •commenced?- and -was kept up till the "wee sma*!hours," by a luge assembly. We hear that the gross reoeipts from tne fur amounted to upwards of £270 for the 6 pights, and altogether it h'ar been fe great succeses
