THE FANCY FAIE.
This novel and amusing show which had been looked forward to with great anticipation by the public was duly opened on Wednesday evening list, and not! i withstanding the charge for admission was 2s 6d there was a very full house, and the takings o£ the evning amounted to nearly £50. The opening ceremony commenced by Rev. J. Joees delivering an address, after which His Worship the Mayor delarei " Ye Olde Englishe Fayre" open.- The first item on the programme .was "Ye Vlaie Polle Dance by ye Fayre Maidens," 12 in number, these being a'L young ladies of St. John's Sunday School, wjio went through Iheir performance most admirably. Ihe sight was an exceedingly pretty one, and the effort of the" damsels was loudly ap- lauded. The Beadle next announced "Ye Richardson's Sjhowe," and the little theatre on the stage, capable of seating about 150, was/speedUy crowded. Here was performed. *f3te fearful Tragedie, and ye beatiful Pantomine," in old English stylelby Messrs Power and Lazell, with Madamoiselle Lolo de Glorian, and our local amateurs Messrs Wright, Dawson, and Jackson. This show was repeated twice more during the evening, and there »as a rery full house each time. Those old favorites, " Punch and Judy,'' were also well patronised not only by the youngsters but also by many adults. *'Ye beantiful shoppes " were presided Over by ladies of the town and district, all dressed in, quaint but beautiful costumes. i'Ye funie clownes " caused much merriment bv their mirthful sayings and ludicrous antics. The proceedings were enlivened* by the Wanganui band, under iihe cobr ductorship of Mr E. J. King. The whole of the entertainment was repeated iok Thussday and Friday nights, and wife the affair has been a great succiis. As will be seen by a new advertiseßrtnt,. there will be a grand carnival to-night with new provisions for the amusement of tfce visitors. Therecare. to : be stilT greater novelties on Monday.and.
