Five skaters vrc^e drowned in the Thames on December 12 by the breaking of the ice. The thermometer registered seventeen below zero. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Whalley, M.P., charged with obtains ing £05 by false pretences from Peterborough publican. A severe snowstorm occurred in England on the 7th December. A train was snowed up all night in Cheshire. The passengers suffered fearfully.
