THE BOROUGH ELECTIONS.
♦- Yesterday was the day for the nomination of candidates for the Mayor's chnir, and as F. Y. Lethbridge, Esq., proposed by Dr Johnston, seconded by H. L. Sherwill, was the only candidate, he was declared duly elected. Mr Lethbridge briefly thanked the electors for the honor done him, and expressed his feelings of pride he had in tke position he was placed. He would have preferred a contest, and then he would have been able to learn the wants of the ratepayers, and have endeavored to find means to supply them. As it was he could now only state his intention of doing hit utmost to promote the prosperity of the place. The Returning Officer, Mr Hill, then read three nominations for the seat in the Borough. Council, which had been duly lodged with him, vis. — Henry Worsfold, proposed by H. L. Sherwill, seconded by S. Groodbehere. Charles Eoe, proposed by Mr J. M. Higgin, seconded by Mr Wm. Bowler. Samuel Daw, proposed by F. Y. Lethbridge, seconded by S. J. Thompson. The Returning Officer stated the election would take place on Wednesday the 22nd instant. Mr Lethbridge, in a ne»t and appropriate speech, proposed a vote of thanks to the [Returning Officer. This was seconded by Mr E. H. Wright and carried. There was a very small attendance of ratepayers at the Council offices.
