THE CLERK TO THE BENCH.
♦ Two settlers came down from the Kiwitea on Monday last for the purpose of availing themselves of the services of the Clerk to the Bench in taking out summonses against some parties for debt. It is needless for us to say that they had their journey for nothing. They were informed that by going to Palmerston they could attain their wishes. As this would have entailed a loss of three day's time, and a complete neglect of their farms and business during that period, they were compelled lo hazard the probable loss of their money. We have already expressed our opinions on the subject of the removal of the Clerk to the Bench from Feilding, and will at present abstain from further remarks. We await the reply of Ibe Minister of Justice to Mr Fry. who forwarded the resolutions passed at the public meeting held to discuss the subject. If the reply is not favourable, it will be necessary to call another meeting, and frame still stronger resolutions, and let the Ministry know we are determined to have our rights.
