SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
« We regret to have to chronicle a mo«?t serious and painful accident which bcfel Mr G. Crichton (successor to Messrs Thompson Bros., of the Exchange Storos), on Tuesday evening last. Mr Crichton, together with Mr S. J. Thompson, was transacting some business matters in Palmer and Jones' old stores, when he was suddenly called upstairs to attend to the wants of one of his children. Mr Crichton was about to descend the stairs, (which, we may add, arc exceedingly high and entirely unprotected by railings or balustrade) when he fell, striking his head violently against one of the studs of the building. In falling, Mr Crichton grasped at an upright post, but unfortunately missed his hold, and fell heavily down the stairs. Mr Thompson hastened to Mr Crichton's assistance, and attended to his wants. Beyond a severe shaking, and several nasty bruises on his forehead, Mr Crichton sustained no further injuries. His escape from more serious, if I not fatal injury, was most providential.
