We extract the following figures from the Australian Brewer's Journal, giving the number of acres under cultivation, the total yield, and the yield per acre, of barley grown from 1873 to 1880 inclusive : — Acres. Wales ... 43,249 891,622 Queensland ... 7,211 115,015 South Australia ... 101,837 1.279,(580 Western Australia 46,521 721,290 Tasmania 46,877 1,097,841 New Zealaud ... 249,415 7,137,403 Average bushels per acre : Victoria, 20 ; New South Wales, 20; Queensland, 20 ; South Australia, 12; Western Australia, 15 ; Tasmania, 23 ; New Zealand, 29. It will be seen from the above that New Zealand holds the highest position.
