FEILDING SPORTS MEETING.

At the meeting to-night the subject of the day on which the Annual Sports are to be held is again to be discussed. We understand that there is a general feeline among the citizens to retain the old day - Boxing Day. Tlie grounds for this feeling appear reasonable enough when it is remembered tha.. on this day, for

the past eight ye trs, ihe Fi-ildin. folk have, a»aciiii<led to witness li.c various sports and amusements. &0.. provided for the public, who so liberally patronised them. In order that the sports now to be arranged for may be nn entire financial suce.es, nut only must the people make up their minds to attend them with their families, hut heads of fninili'-s and others must be prepare! t-> liberally subscribe towards the prize funds. If we intend to compete with Palmerston for public patronage, liberal prizes must be offered to competitors, and a varied programme provided. This means money, and this year we can not expect to have funds provided almost entirely by the sale of privileges as has been the case in former years. Another ! thing to be remembered is, that ii xr 11 be the duty of every one who takes any real interest in the sports, to attend the meet* ing to-night, and t.iko an activo part in whatever work is to be done. This will prevent any future trouble or dissatisfaction.
