The steamer Lai la Rookh, for tho safety of which considerable anxiety was felt during the past two or three days, arrived in the Waitara River last night, at seven o'clock.' On Thursday morning, finding the sea too heavy there, lifted anchor and made lor Kawhai, and remained there until yesfcerday morning, when he left and arrived at AV:utara shortly after seven last evening. Thy captain reports that the whole of the report in reference to a distress signal is incorrect, as the only signal used was the usual recognition of a steamer passing, by exhibiting a light.
