ELOPEMENT WITH A MOTHER-IN-LAW.
At the Thames Police-court, on the 10t-li ot July last, a well-dressed younwomau, about 19 years old, applie t to the magistrate for his advice. She stated that she was married a short time ago, and had been very happy with her husband until her mo' her, who was a widow, came to hv« with them. Her husband's manner then i hanged towards her, he became cool and off-hand with herj while his manner to her mother was very warm and I affectionate. She remonstrated wiMi im ; but he only lau/hed at her, and told her that the was dreaming Mm did i.ot like to say anythirg to her mother, but at last she niaue up her mind that she would speak to her upon the subject, but before she could get an opportunity of doing so her husband und her mother eloped together. I The applicant was further undei stood I to say th it Imr mother had money, i whilst she had none; th-it, she be- . lieved, was th-e bait which had allured her husband. The magistrate told
*her that he wa- •on- v U-- could not assist, her. If. -he wanted ber husbnnd to support her must go to the parish authwrit <>.-■, and they — if he was in reach — wi.uld find her husband and compel him to maintain her. The applicant declared that she would starve first, and left the court — Gobe.
