She belongs to I- His, of Newcastle, N.S.W. The Auckland married women's petition to the Mayor and council against the ontagious Diseases Act has 1160 signatures attached. It is to be presented by Drs Wallis and Kenderdine. Wellington, This Day. Dr Gillon, resident surgeon of the bcspital, has resigned. A true bill was found against Beatlie, charged witli the murder of his paramour near Oamaru. The case will be heard next Tuesday. " The Hon Mr Johnston, Minister for Public Works, is expected here on Wednesday. Mr Mcintosh's hotel at Blacks was burnt down on Sundaj'. The loss is estimated at £1200. It was insured for £500 in the Colonial. Later. The Daily Times declared an interim dividend of 7 per cent. The Refrigerating Company has chartered tho s.s. Sorento to load frozen meat. The Health Officer's report shows that of late there has been an alarming increase of scarlet feye r . During the last month 24 cases had occurred. Dr Maunsell has urgently submitted that the Council should not delay iv the matter of erecting a Fever Hospital. The Council have recommended the Government to erect such building on a portion of the Dunedin Hospital Ground. Patea, This Day. Designs are called for a Town Hall building, not to exceed £800. Chbistchurcu, This Day. The Customs revenue for September was £26,980 4s lld, including beer duty, £2161 7s 7d. Last year the Customs revenue was £21,364 19s 3d, the beer duty then being £1081 12s 7d.
