TAKANA'S FUNERAL FEAST.
The feast and tangi in remembrance and honor of the deceased chief, Takana, was held at the pa at Awahuri. It commenced on Thursday and was concluded on Friday morning, when the visiting .Natives took their departure to their several homes, highly satisfied with the hospitable manner in which they had been treated. The following is a list of the tribes represented from Waikato, Taranaki, Wanganui, and the East Coast : — Ngatiraukawa, Ngatipikiao, Ngatiinaniapoto. Ngatiwaewae, Ngatihauiti, Ngatibinemanu, Ngatirangitaht, Ngatitoa > 2fgatiapa. The total number of Natives present was about nine hundred.
