The report of the Public Works Committee was read as follows :— Your committee having considered the question of footpaths, recommend that streets of •ne chain in width, should be of the breadth of ten feet, and in streets of one-and-a-half or two chains, should be of the breadth of twelve feet. Respecting the reported nuisance in Derby-street, no action can be advised at present, as the expense of affecting a remedy would be too serious. Should the Council determine to construct Fitzroy-street, the stagnant water could easily be conducted into the railway drain, and thus avert any probable scene of mischief. J. M. Higgin, Chairman. The report was adopted. Cr J. C. Thompson drew the attention of the Council to the fact that a person was selling beer in quantiti s of two gallons, without a license, in the Borough. Council adjourned to the 12th Oct.
