In consequence of the prevalence of piracy in the Chinese seas the Fnglisu Admirality is arming a number of merchant cruisers. Six are being prepared at Bo •' bay, and six at Hong Kong. The railway bridge over the Prave at Esek. a town at the junction of the Drake and Danube, sank gradually as the train passed over it. The couplings of the carriages gave way, and the rear part of the train was consequently saved. Cargo of frozen meat ex Mataura have been found to be in good order, and quite equal in condition to Dunedin shipment. A number of carcasses were sold to-day at from snd to 6d per pound. London meat market is at pre»ent overstocked. The homeward mails via c 'uez arid Brindsi, which left Melbourne on loth August, were delivered hereto-day. Several important arrests have been made in connection with the Lough Mask murders.
