£500,000 WORTH OP PROPERTY DESTROYED.
[bt teleobaph.j Sydnet, September 22. The Garoen Palace, situated in the inner domain, the building in which the New^gouth Wales International Exhibition of 1879 was held, has been totally destroyed by fire. The conflagration broke out at five o'clock this morning, and is still raging. The sight of the burning building is most grand, and thousands of people are now on the spot. Later. All the archives of the Mining Department, th.- Census Office, Linnean Society, together with tbe national collection of minerals in the Technological Museum have been destroyed at the Garden Palace. The dome of the building fell with a crash 20 minutes after the lire broke out. The estimated It- in all amounts to half a million sterling. Latest. The Aft Collection in the Garden Palace was insured for £3.000. this was the only insurance on the whole building or its contents.
