MR HUNT AND SIR ARTHUR GORDON.
— • (by telegraph.) Wellington, June 16. Mr Hunt of "Samoan notoriety, is pursuing his action against Sir Arthur Gordon for eight thousand pounds, damage for forcible removal from the Island, which removal was made at the instance o\ Sir Arthur Gordon, as Hijrb Commissioner of the Pacific. The position of affairs is at present as .follows: — Mr Hunt has served the writ' and declaration on Sir Arthur Gordon, who pleaded (1) That he took action by virtue of an Order in Council; (2) That a New Zealand Court had no jurisdiction ; and (3) That even if it' had, a New Zea and Court would be debarred by reason of the case having 1 been heard and dispesed ol by the Supreme Court of Fiji. Mr Huut'i* application is that an Order in Council is ultra vires as regards "arpoa, and purposes following the Governor to England if necessary. It is not ; jinn possible this may delay the Governor's departure.
