The Franklin Times PUBLISHED EVERY MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, AND FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

FRIDAY, JULY 31, 1925. FAPAKURA’S CHOICE.

Office and Works: HALL STREET, PUKEKOHE. Telephone No. 2. P.O. Box li. “We nothing extenuate, nor aught set down in malice."

IT is always a mailer for regret when acrimony creeps into a business controversy, such as thul regarding which power board Papakura should he under. However, although in this question some feeling as to statements made has been exhibited, the town of Papakura stands entirely to benefit as a result of the controversy. Until the Franklin board evinced a. desire to have Papakura in its area, the town had no very definite idea as to when it was likely lo be reticulated. Tim entry of the Franklin board with a definite promise of reticulation within four months if Papakura would join its area, spurred the Auckland board on, with the resell that the latter body promised Papakura electric light and power within three, and a-half months. The difference of a fortnight in (he two promises indicates keen rivalry for Papakura as the prize, the town thus suddenly assuming a several-fold greater importance Ilian previously in matters electrical, and gelling something very definite as lo when it was likely to have Ihe benefit of power and light. For this, tile Franklin board is solely responsible, and. from this point of view, has earned Papakura’s besl thanks. When the mailer is considered in this light, Papakura residents will doubtless agree that they owe a debt of gratitude to the Franklin board, and, no matter what the ultimate outcome of the controversy, Ihey stand to be the immediate gainers.
