RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION
MEETING LAST THURSDAY. TKe Pukekohe Ratepayers'' Association held a meeting Sn the Carnival Tea Rooms on Thursday evening last, when Mr W, S. Russell pressed In his opening remarks the chairman said the position was very serious, as it was possible that the present veiiy high .rate may be materially increased by the present Council. The object of the meeting wss to get (ratepayers to jdin up to help control the CounciL Among the other questions that needed attention were valuations, lighting, water rates, etc, In addition there was the drainage question to be dealt with. A letter from the town clerk in answejv to a series of questions was then read, The letter, ‘in the opinion of the meeting was evasive and ts,d not give the answers on the lines wanted.
Hfr Eassett characterised the letter as bluff and an insult to the intelligence of the ratepayers, Mr Q. K, Lawjrie said that ;the present Council had made up its mind to take no notice of any body Off men or individuals, 'He considered it quite ridiculous to spend £750 to patch up an old engine. Mr J, T, Stembiudge and a number of others spoke on similar lines. It wps finally decided to work for the selection and election of an entirely new Council to replace the present body in April next,
