PAPAKURA.
A brick shop is being builS. on the opposite side of Great South Road to the Papjakuya Post Office. The owner, M 1 * Wlddonson, has built up to his leg'll boundary encroaching on the present footpath about 2 feet. The opinion was expressed at the Bogrd meeting that this made. the necessity of attending to the footpath which is at present both dangerous and unsightly a pressing matter As Soon therefore as funds are (•available the Board proposes to bring this path down to its proper level and make it the regulation width, 12 feefa For that 'reason the Board declined to sanction the placing of an eight foot verandah on; the new building. DRAINAGE. That the people of Papakura will have to face the question of .drainage in the near future is becoming more and more evident. (The Board at its last meeting was urged by<a ratepayer to fill in a ditch in front of his (the objectors” property, but while sympathising with the request, the Board must' keep this as a watercourse, otherwise other properties would suffer. The (remedy in tnis case is to pipe -a long line but the Board has no funds for such a costly work, Mr R, At Armstrong, Dominion secretary of the New Zealand Moderate League, addressed p meeting in Richardson’ Hall on Monday night. There was a fair attendance. Mr E, C. Cole occupied the chair. Mb Armstrong spoke on the lines of his Auckland address, urging that the only satisfactory way of dealing v/ith the liquor traffic was bv State purchase and control? The meeting was decidedly friendly towards the speaker, who was repeatedly applauded and heartily thanked for his address.
