AT THE BOARD TABLE.
A LIlirLE JOKE. At the last meeting of the Papa-ku-;ra Town Board a letter was read from Mr W. Richardson urging the Board to metal Green Street, pud \ informing the Board that he (the w writer) had offered' to help by advancing the cost, but the old Boaru had turned his offer down. Mr F). Young, who is already noted for > hjis pithy remarks at the Board’s table, remarked: “That in view of the old Boards road work, My Rich'ardson ought to be thankful that his offer v/as not accepted.” Turning, to Mr Evans, one of the late Board members. he Mr Evans : ‘‘Oh, we are used *to that.now/ p THE BOARD’S DILEMMA. At its meeting on Monday the Board had before it a report from the water works foreman, In it complaint was made that a certain person., who was not a licensed plumber, had made pipe connections with the water mains, and this is against, the Board’s byJ'a.wSj and the Board’s, (jilemma was how to deal, with offender. Every member agreed thatbt. as this was» not the first case, it, could not be allowed to go on, but no one present cared to move that the iaw Ibe put in motion. Persons desiring the water would be wise to interview the clerk before undertaking any, work, or they may find themselves the first victim of a bro- < ken by-law. A THREATENING BREEZE. A passing Reference to old Wairoa Road, a road leading to the Fapaku,ra Bowling Greeny at the Town Board gave rise to si,gns of a slight breeze. The old Board in. its lastmoments of its existence, ordered a lot of material for this road and it was actually delivered on day of Hie Board’s election. The new members have been waiting to hear about this material i<yhich was ordered in such* haste), that no provision was made ifor its use, and it has laid where first placed ever since. This is a road span settled and little used, while there are other roads in the heart of the town quite as bad, - thickly populated. Why were these neglected and, material brought for this out-of-the-way roadi. ? The chairman, seeing the storm coming, c gassed quickly to the next business--but more may be heard of this matter ■» THE BOARD AT WORK.
