PAPAKURA.

TOWN BOARD MEETING. The ordinary meeting o? the Pagakura Town Board was held on Monday, November 13th, 1922. Present : Mr D. Weir (chair), Messrs Bates, Evans. Rhind, Young, Walker and Rev. Wood'. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Deputations. Dr Page and Messrs Chamberlain Rev Griffin waited upon the Board to complain of the bad stake of Elliott Street. Mr West waited upon Ihe Board in reference to a ditch in front of his property, which he asked might be filled in. Both deputations were unformed that the Bofird 1 will duly consider Jthe requests. Correspondence. A letter from the .Presbyterian Bible Class thanking the Board /for use of reserve on Labour Day was received. Meckie and Company wrote offering to arrange loans on .debentuies Referred to Finance Comm tee. N.Z. I)airy Company wrote requesting that their own engineer be allowed to make the necessary water connections. —Request granted on the motion of Rev. Wood) seconded by Mr Bates. The Health Department wrote notifying the Board (that their contribution to the inspector’s salary was increased to £3l per auunm -—Rev, Wood moved and Mr Evans seconded, that the Board accept the levy. Carried. Mr W, Richardson wrote asking that Green Street be metalled.—Letter referred to the Wdrks Committee The foreman reported that he had engaged two extra workmen, and that the wfljrk was being pushed forward. Report of Waterworks Foreman. Mr Young moved and Mr Walker seconded: That consideration of a ratepayer’s action in making connections to wjater main be deferred until next Monday night. Carried Rev. Wood moved and Mr Walker seconded., that the foreman be instructed to have the connection to the house of Nurse Margets completed,—Carried. Mr V H. Hati’ick wrote asking the Board to their decision re .damaged' water ,pipe.—Rev. Wood moved and Mr Young seconded that the Board regrets its inability to rejopen the matter. —Carried. On the motion of Rev Wood, seconded by Mr Walker,. Mr Langford was given permission to fence off the tip a,t the end of Elliott Street. Mr Ai. Burgess" request to have water pipes laid to his property ujas granted on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Bates. An application from the N-Z 0 Dairy Company to be supplied with a watflr meter was,, on the motion of Rev. Wood, seconded by the chairman, left in the hands of the Finance Committee with power to act. It was moved by Mr Young,, and seconded by 'Rev. Wood that the matter of laying scoria on the 01/d Wairoa Road be discussed, at the next ordinary meeting of the Board. —Carried. An offer v/as received from an Auckland firm to buy the stone crusher fob old metalj. On the motion of Mr Walker, seconded by Mr Bates, the sale was feift in the hands of the mover and clerk to arrange price. Mr Rhind reported that he had inspected tha provision made by Bates Bros., to protect the water basin from logs coming down * the hill side in the gekge, and that he considered the provision satisfactory. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Young, the Board’s solicitor was instructed to take action against hvo taxi drivers who had failed to pay license fees. The clerk was granted permission to act as returning officer at the general election, on the motion of Revi. Wood, seconded by Mr Young. Finance. /The chairman moved, seconded by Rev. Wood, that the general iunds accounts amounting to £95 iSs be passed for payment.—QaH'ied. Mr Young moved, and Mr Walker seconded!, that the Road Loan Account, amounting to £3 15s, be passed for payment.—Carried Rev. Wood moved and MV Walker seconded, that the water loan account amounting to £B3 15s 10(1 be passed for payment,—Carried. Mr Young moved and Rev Wood seconded, that ithe engineer be paid £250 on account. —Carried.; Building Plans. Messrs Markwick, Widdonson and KefiJs submitted plans of buildings being erected, and on the motion of Mr Y'oung, seconded by Mr Bates,, they were approved. Small repairs to footpaths in the centre of the town were left in the hands of Mr Rhind. Road Work. Mr £ Walker reported on the work being done on Settlement Road, the balance of ithe loan money is being spentv amounting to £250, under the direction of Mr W.a'ker, and it promises to be one of the most satisfactory pieces of road work done in the .town fdr many years. „ „ The Rev. Wood and Mr C. F. Young again urged the importance of repairing the Great South Road. The cidrk explained that the dejay was caused by having to await (the result of tenders called for the carting. A tender having been accepted the way was clear for starting .aft once. Rey. Wood moved and M)r Young seconded that 200 yards of McCallum’s shingle be ordered at once.— Carried. . Instructions were given that this be laid as soon as available, Messrs Walker, Young and Rhind being de. puted ito supervise the work. Overtaking Board Business. Mr C. F. Young pointed out the impossibility of the Board overtaking its work if it Was content to meet only twice each month., Afte(r several members had spoken to the sjame effect,, it was decided, on the motion of Mr Young, seconded by 1 Rev. Wood;, that the Board meet in

future every Monday evening. On the motion of Mr Walker, seconded by Mr Evans,,, the chairman and Rev'. W. C. Wood were appointed delegates to the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies Association. Tenders for Carting. The following tenders were received; for carting road material td Settlement and other roads :—Messrs. N. Watson 2s Settlement Road, 2s 3d distant ; T. Ferginson 2s Settlement Road, 2s distant ; Johnson Bros. Is 9d Settlement Road, 2s distant :A Burgess Is 9d Settlement- - Read, is 9d" distant. That of A. Burgess being the lowest was accepted.
