The following new members were elected : Messrs J H. Keith, J. Patterson, J Pollock, A. G. Lan.don, C. R. Fulton and W v Peters. The president, Mr Jas. Pollock, in a lenghty report, dealt with the doings qf the club during the past year
Some discussion took place relative to certain Jersey classes m the A. and Pi Society Show schedule. It was claimed that the group yearling bull and heifers should be replaced by a class for a progeny class. However, after an expression of opinion, it was decided to recommend this alteration Cor the consideration of the A. and P. Society,
Members urged that steps chould be taken with a view of having an improved system of semi-official testing. At 1 the present time it was pointed out that testing was done on a one day syssem. This was claimed to be inadequate because on the particular day of the official’s visit a particular cow or heifer under test might be suffering from a complaint, such as indigestion, and because the test was low on the particular occasion the cow whether she improved was penalised for the whole month. It was suggested that a fortnightly tes.t be made. One member pointed out that owing to the present financial .deiavession and the policy of economy adopted by the Government, they were lucky to have semi official testing at ail. If they continued growling they might lose the S.O.testing altogether
A resolution that the report be adopted was carried. The secretary, Mr"D„,iR. Hamilton, was voted a bonus of £3O in recognition of valuable services rendered to the club. The secretary’s work was eulogised 1 in the highest terms, the right man in the right place. The election of officers for the*ensuing year resulted as follows : President: Mr J, Fulton ; M;r T. Messrs J. -Fulton, A,. Best and K. F, Wilkinson were appointed to represent the club on the Combined Breeders’ Committee. A conference c*f the combined breeders is to be convened for the purpose of discussing a proposal to alter the date of computing the age of cattle from June Ist instead of July Ist, It was pointed out that this being an early district was adaptable to the enforcement of the proposal, but it may not suit the southern people.
