On Friday, 20th of October, the footballers gave their annual ball, which was a great success The hall was beautifully decorated with bunting, greenery and flowers Shortly after eight o’clock the orchestra struck up the Grand March, which was led by Mr Wilfred Johnstone and Miss Whitney, Mrs Wilfred .Johnstone and Mr F. Speedy followed, by about 100 coiuples.. The floor was in perfect order, and the music, which was supplied by Hawthorne's orochestra, was full of brightness and vivacity. During the evening Mr Hall spoke a few words of the club’s ability and presented a few trophies. Asumptuous and dainty supper was provided Visitors were present from Auckland, East Tamaki, Awhitu, Runciman and Takapuna. TUHIMATA. The Ping’ Pong Club gave their annuai “At Home” on Wednesday, 18th October The evening was devoted to a book guessing competition and dancing, the successful winners of the competition being Mr and Mrs Parker, of East Pukekohe Mrs Sharpe acted as hostess and received about 100 guests. The floor was in excellent order and the music, which was supplied by Mr Les’ie and Miss Edna Ballard, was all that could be wished .for. The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Mr T. decorated with flags, greenery and scarlet flowers. A dainty -upper was well appreciated by all, and the supper room was artistically decorated’ ‘in mauve and pir.k sweet peas, relieved with greenery. Mr Parker, on behalf qf the guests, thanked Mrs Sharpe and the club for the most enjoyable evening everyone had had, Dancing was indulged in until the early hours of the morn, when the guests were quite sorry to depart GLENBROOK. Last week a large number of residents and visitors from outlying districts spent a most enjoyable evening in the hall, tire occasion being, a “kitchen evening” which was tendered to Miss Flossie Devereaux. A large number of parcels were brought along and when opened they proved to be kitchen utensils of every description from aluminium pots and kettles io a mouse trap. The time was spent in dancing, and an entertaining programme between the dances. Everything went off well and everybody kid a real good time. Just prior io sup per being handed round, Mrs Hrotngool, on behalf of all present, wished the guest of the evening every happiness in her future life, and called on her to receive the parcels and open them out. Miss Devereaux did so, and in a very neat speech thanked everyone for their good wishes and gifts, which she very much appreciated. The following items were rendered: Song, Miss Sargood: song, Mrs E. Dronigool; song. Mr R. McElwain; dialogue, Mrs R. McElwain and Miss Cooke. The dance music was supplied by Misses Devereaux, Gilbert and Mrs Dronigool. \ The annual meeting of the Tennis, Club has been held and everything points to it being a very successful season. Unfortunately each day that has been set aside for Ih.e w eking bee, to get the ground ready to piay on. has turned oid very wet, but ibe members hope to soon he practising. The intention of the Club is to have the second court ready before Christmas. if possible, and to have the official opening then.
