A curious point in workmen’s compensation has just been settled by the English Court of Appeal. A collier who did not drink or smoke was in the habit of carrying a nut in his mouth, apparently for much the same reason that some people carry chewing gum. One day while at work he slipped and fall, and the nut was jerked down his windpipe suffocating him. The court held tlhat the accident was “in the course of his employment” and 1 entitled His widow to recover. After a deal of careful calculation and figuring* the experts w'ho deal in incomprehensible figures representing distances and centuries have announced their conclusions that the age of the earth probably in “round” numbers, is between 8 OOQ.OOO and 1,7100,000 000 years. The variation is so slight, being only U 692 000,000 years as to inconsequential.
