BOARD OF ALDERMEN
CONDEMN PROHIBITION. The Boat'd af Aldermen of the City of New York passed' the following resolution on February 7th last Whereas, public opinion, as ev.denced in newspaper reports and expressions of the people in general, tends strongly to a desire for an amendment of the Volstead Law so that there may be restored to the people the right ito the use of the nourishing light wines and beers to which they were for years accustomed and which they believe by right they should be permitted therefore resolved — . That <the Congress of the United States be and hereby is petitioned, in the name of the Board of Aldermen of the City of New York, to so amend • ne all too-prohibitive Volstead Law to the end that the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages may be permitted so that . the many who for years found sustenance in light wines and beets may again enjoy that right and privilige. . . Resolutions of similar import have recently been adopted bv the Common Councils or other municipal boards of Chicago. St. Louis. Baltimore, Boston, and several other citics. The Legislature of Louisana has also adopted such a resolution. The Chamber cff Commerce of Milwaukee and the Grain Trade Association of the San .Francisco Chamber of Commerce and other commercial bodies have placed themselves on record in like terms. Such verdicts on Prohibition from responsible bodies need no comment. Vote Continuance. 1-
