MAUKU. iThe local Tennis Club ‘'held the official opening of the season on Sal ur.day last The weather w r as no very favourable for tennis durin the forenoon heavy showers fallin at intervals, ‘but fortunately durin the afternoon the rain held off an the sun shone brilliantly, and a though ithe ground was sodden quit a pleasant afternoon was spent b the fifty or sixty people who attenc ed. The president (Mr J'l/ Davies extended! a hearty wdlpfrsi to all including visitors frornjffiVaiuku^Pa tumahoe and Puni ulating the club upon the improve ments made to the courts and pa vision and wishing the club a sue cessful season, he called on’Mrs Dav ies to hit <the*first ball over the net which she did amidst applause. Th president also announced that ai impromptu dance would be held ii the hall in the evening, and consid ering the short notice, -there was good attendance, and the dance v™ an unqualified success.
