FRANKLIN RUGBY UNION, HAMILTON 29. v. FRANKLIN 5. On September 16th the Franklin Rugby Union’s team journeyed to Hamilton to play the Hamilton team. Considerable difficulty was experienced by the Franklin Union in getting a Learn away owing tO' the lateness Of the season —the mu Iking season preventing several of the prominent men travelling. Among those who could not make the we're Les. Cathcart', S,. Cronin, L. Balme. J G. Markham M. Wray C. Wilson Jack Dromgool, Loftus Cathcart and Les Morris. However, only 14 men made the journey a Hamilton playdr (J, Clafkin) filling the vacancy.

Towards the end of the first quarter Bayley secured alfter the ball had been handled by tfhe home rearguard and despite Mathews” great tackle Bayley just got over, scoring his 'tfiind try. His Wick failed and the finst quarter ended: , Hamilton 11 FVanklin .... — 0 Hinton Brothers put in some clever work near the Franklin line and finally C. Clai’kin accepted! a long pass from Mareroft and ran over. The kick went wide. The yellows again 'but, Mathews rose to the occasion and drove the invaders back. Franklin took the ball to HamW-on’s linej but unfinished play spoiled some good openings. This quarter was in favour o)f Franklin, but thq visitors could not penetarate the home team’s defence. Hamilton 23 Franklin 0 The final quarter saw Franklin hot in attack and they took the ball to Hamilton’s \ine where C. Dromgool was glassed on jfhe line. Clairkiln and Christie got over, making the score: Hamilton 29 , Franklin •- Mr Dryden gave entkre satisfaction as referee, F. Mathews the Franklin .full-back, played a sterling game and won frequent applause from the spectators. HPhe football enthusiasts fjn .the big Waiktho town gave it as thflifr opinion that Mathews’ display at full back was the best seen in Hamilton this season in spite qf the fact that representative teams from Waikatq, Wairarapa and Auckland had played in Hamilton during the year. Before and after the majtch the visitors were entertained by the Hamilton Union. The latter spaced no effort in catering for the visitors. and even went as far as providing cigarettes. The team, in spite of its crushing defeat spent a most enjoyable time, and next year’s visit is looked forward to with pleasure. » SATURDAY’S GAMES. On Saturday last the ElSerslie fifth gra.te team met the local Techniacl High Schoqi team on the Domain and suffered defeat by s.ix points to tfy-ee. For Pukekohe Technical High School McKean and Waters scored tries, while Elllersiie notcheldjone try, The Pukekohe mounted troop defeated *ha Cle/vedon itroop of 3rd A M(R. by six points to five, Both games were keenly and evenly contested.
